 Aromatherapy Massage | Essential Oils

Aromatherapy is basically the use of the essential oils to aid better health.

images/pic-front.jpgAromatherapy is becoming more and more popular around the world and is changing a whole new section of people to believing in the healing powers of aroma and smell. It is in essence the use of essential oils or liquid plant extracts to change someone’s mental or physical health in a positive way. These plant extracts can consist of any number or blends of relaxing and healing plant materials that are aromatic in nature. There are three basic types of aromatherapy: clinical, home, and aromachology. This article will discuss each of the three types of aromatherapy and will serve as an overview of the topic.

Clinical aromatherapy:

The knowledge of chemicals and their synergistic effect is used for determining the clinical use of aromatherapy. It is imperative to know the prescribed amount and duration of theimages/pic-front-1.jpg dosage in terms of what aromas to use for a treatment. For the most part however, it is regarded as an “art form” as opposed to a valid healing science. In clinical cases, aromatherapy is not likely to be used as treatment in any major clinical facilities. Instead, you are more apt to find it in use at some of the more holistic healing centers in your area. For the most part, you should use aromatherapy as a supplement to a excepted medical treatment until the medical proof is established to start using it as a comprehensive treatment.

Aromatherapy in the home:

Home aromatherapy is basically the use of the essential oils and other materials in a very basic way. This is often the technique used for relaxation and other ideas. Some of the items used in home aromatherapy include essential oils such as eucalyptus oil or grapefruit oil. Absolutes are also used. Absolutes are oils extracted from fragrant butters or concrete materials such as rose absolute. Rosewater is another popular material used in aromatherapy at home. This is known as a hydrosol because it is the by product in aqueous form from a distillation process.

Aromachology:

This is seen as the study of how aromatherapy and a variety of aromas affect the brain and the physiological makeup of the human body. In brief, it is about how we act and react to individual fragrances and how our body reacts when we experience them. This is also known as the basic intent of studying the effects of odour on human behaviour. Some plants can have a stimulating effect and others can have relaxing effects, so the objective of aromachology is to study and find out about these effects and their potential value in the world of established medicine.
